Gary "The Glove" Blanton

When Glove discovered Rock n' Roll in the mid-70's, he basically harassed his parents into getting him a guitar. They did him right by acquiring a classic Fender Stratocaster. It wasn't long after when he played in his first garage band as the rhythm guitarist. He still deeply regrets later selling the Strat to a friend at university.

Glove moved to the bass in early 1996, playing with several bands in São Paulo, Brazil. The first was The Oatmeals, whose tag line was "You might not like us, but we're good for you." Interestingly, the harmonica player and singer, Jeff Lippman, is a long-time friend of The Benchmarx's very own Tick.

Later, some of the band members, including Lippman, the captivating bluesy singer Jillian Dean and rockabilly stud guitarist Bill Hoffmann, formed the entertaining 8-member group The Funky Fresh Cocoa Puffs. When Dean and Hoffmann left Brazil two years later, and in keeping with the breakfast theme, Glove and Lippman started Toast. Which is precisely what they quickly became.

Glove joined The Benchmarx in early 2008 as the band's 3rd generation bass player. Several of his songs appear on the latest CD, Smell the Music, including the band's first love song. He continues to write music, but is most animated when he inspires the band to go off on extended improv jams.
